On the Use of Higher Order and Irregularly Shaped Boundary Elements in Nearfield Acoustical Holography

چکیده
Nearfield acoustical holography (NAH) is used to find the regions of acoustic activity on the surface of a sound radiating object. One of the most general NAH approaches is the inverse frequency response function (IFRF) technique, since it imposes no limitations on the geometry of the radiating boundary. In the IFRF method acoustic measurements on a grid in the nearfield of the object are used to determine the corresponding normal velocity distribution on the surface of the object. The measured sound field is related to the surface vibrations via a transfer matrix, which is calculated using a boundary element method. The required inversion of the transfer matrix is not that simple, because the system is ill-conditioned. Hence, a physically meaningful solution can only be obtained by applying regularization techniques. In the literature, the boundary surface of the source is usually meshed with constant or linear elements of equal shape and size. Most likely, this is done to avoid the effect that the regularized inversion process favors nodes that are associated with a high mean square surface normal velocity. This effect is due to the fact that such nodes have a more effective contribution to the sound field. In this paper it is demonstrated that the problem in which the inverse solution is affected by the topology of the mesh gets even worse when quadratic elements are applied. A new technique will be described that circumvents this problem completely by the introduction of an appropriate smoothing operator. As a result all boundary nodes are treated in an equal way, irrespective of their associated area or type of shape function. With the presented approach, irregular meshes and/or higher order boundary elements can be successfully used in NAH applications. 237

A general radiation model for sound fields and nearfield acoustical holography in wedge propagation spaces.
In this work an expression for the solution of the Helmholtz equation for wedge spaces is derived. Such propagation spaces represent scenarios for many acoustical problems where a free field assumption is not eligible. The proposed sound field model is derived from the general solution of the wave equation in cylindrical coordinates, using sets of orthonormal basis functions. The latter are mod...

In this paper we give analytical and numerical evidence of increasing stability in the Cauchy Problem for the Helmholtz equation when frequency is growing. This effect depends on convexity properties of the surface where the Cauchy Data are given. Proofs use Carleman estimates and the theory of elliptic boundary value problems in Sobolev spaces. Our numerical testing is handling the nearfield a...
متن کاملNumerical investigation of composite shear walls with different types of steel and concrete materials as boundary elements
The main objective of this study was to numerically assess the effect of boundary elements with different types of steel and concrete materials on nonlinear behavior of composite steel–reinforced concrete wall (CSRCW) by employing ABAQUS software. Two types of common steel profiles including box and I-shaped sections, located at the middle and extremities of the wall, were employed to assess th...

Investigations are presented on the reconstruction of the sound field close to the surface of arbitrarily shaped sound sources. The Nearfield Acoustical Holography (NAH) in spherical coordinates can be used for the reconstruction of sound field parameters. The applicability of the reconstruction method, however, is limited by the validity restrictions of the Rayleigh hypothesis, which are deter...

Such functions u are called radiating solutions. Pressure measurements are taken by acoustical sensors located in a domain Ω0 inside or outside the cabin or on a surface Γ0 = ∂Ω0 . Our goal is to reconstruct u inside Ω, or the normal velocity v = ∂νu on Γ = ∂Ω, (ν is the unit exterior normal to ∂Ω). This is a mathematical model of the nearfield acoustic holography [W], [Wu]. H(m)(Ω) denotes the...
